Sedalia CO real estate is as varied as the people who live in this diverse and rich environment. According to the Douglas County History Research Center, the town started in the 1860s as "Round Corral", then was called "Plum" for a while, then in 1872 the name Sedalia was recorded with the opening of a post office. The name came from the Missouri town which had been the former home of Henry Clay, a prominent landowner. Now you will find ranchers, commuters, shopkeepers and restaurant workers; executives and professionals; people who work in trucking, building & farm supply, and retired people happy with their Sedalia CO homes. Under the blue Colorado sky, the varied terrain of Sedalia accommodates a wide variety of interests. From the relatively flat fields along US Highway 87 to the foothills of the Front Range, you will find all kinds of homesites, on postage-stamp lots to spacious wooded acres with mountain, foothills, and even some city lights views.

Not far east of the town center you will find Cherokee Ranch & Castle, a former 3,000 acre cattle ranch that is now preserved as open space. The showpiece of the ranch is a replica of a 16th-century Scottish castle, built in 1924. It is open for tours and has a notable collection of art and artifacts. A small herd of prize Santa Gertrudis cattle, brought to the area from Texas by the last owner of the ranch, still roams the range.

The population of Sedalia is about 3,600 people, in about 1,600 homes. About 200 of the houses are rentals. The home prices that you will see in Sedalia real estate extend across a wide spectrum, from the low 100’s to the multimillion dollar range. Most Sedalia residents live in rural settings, both in subdivisions and stand-alone. Near the central intersection of US Hwy 87 and Colorado 67, there are friendly restaurants and service providers to let you know there is a town, though a small one, and the hometown feeling you will experience is genuine.

Sedalia CO is part of the Douglas County School District, which has a good reputation for quality and parent involvement. Sedalia has an elementary school in town, but your nearest middle and high schools will probably be in Castle Rock depending on just where you find your home.

The Outlets at Castle Rock, five miles or so from the Sedalia town center, are your nearest link to big city shopping.
