Northglenn history and location. Located in the western part of Adams County, just nine miles north of Denver, the city traces its history all the way back to 1959. OK, so it’s a youngster as cities go, especially compared with the old gold rush towns and trading posts of Colorado’s colorful history – but it’s long enough to have mature trees in the neighborhoods, and long enough to have developed a tangible sense of community. North Glenn was built as a planned community where it could grow into a perfect place for industrial and commercial development conveniently located near the Denver Metropolitan area. Amenities such as community services, parks and open space were part of the plan from the start. The project received national acclaim from its inception. The city was incorporated in 1969 and the name officially changed from that of the original development, North Glenn, to Northglenn. They city now encompasses approximately 7.5 square miles, with a population of over 36,000 residents.

Northglenn awards and interesting facts. Northglenn received a very special honor in December of 2001 as the top pick by the America’s Crown Community Award for its work and dedication to the restoration and redesigning of one of the City’s parks, the Webster Lake and E.B. Rains, Jr. Memorial Park, named in 1985 for one of its fallen police officers. E.B. Rains Park is an especially noteworthy park – with pedal boats for rent, fishing, two great sensory parks, a bike path around the lake, dozens of BBQ’s, picnic tables, and a skate park. It is located just east of I-25, south of 120th Avenue in Northglenn. You can also feel the friendly atmosphere of the city that boasts its own city song, a rarity in these modern times. The song demonstrates an admirable level of community pride. To get yourself all prepped for your househunting trip to Northglenn by learning the words to the city’s song “Our Glenn,” click here.

Housing availability in Northglenn CO.  Homes in the city total up to 12,146 housing units. We’ve already mentioned the average number of homes available for sale, a few hundred. That number compared to the total number of housing units can be a great indicator of market saturation, and could make a big difference in what you end up paying for that home you’re interested in. In the case of Northglenn CO homes for sale, the summertime higher numbers of homes for sale will give you as a buyer plenty of bargaining room. The lower numbers of homes offered during the winter, say in the low 200’s, indicate a tighter market. Still, you might find wintertime sellers to be more flexible, whether they have just come on the market or they have watched the days get shorter through the autumn, watching the leaves fall down around their “For Sale” sign, just hoping you would come along.
