If you’re thinking about buying Castle Rock CO real estate, here are a few tidbits of information you might be interested in. Castle Rock, Colorado was originally incorporated in 1881. Its history goes back a few years before that however to 1874 when Jeremiah Gould donated 120 acres of land to be designated as “Castle Rock” so named after the rock formation of similar appearance high atop a butte near the town. Before that, the land had been occupied primarily by the Arapahoe and Cheyenne Indians who found it to be hospitable for its proximity to pine forests for lodge poles, abundance of deer, antelope and elk and its relative shelter from the sweltering heat of the plains in the summer and the winter storms of the mountains.

Modern day Castle Rock comprises nearly 33 square miles of land, lies approximately 8 miles to the south of Highlands Ranch & Lone Tree on Interstate 25 and is home to some 65,000 residents both in the city proper and the outlying areas.

Castle Rock real estate is varied both in its price ranges and its types of living. One can find single family Castle Rock homes ranging in the low 200s to millions of dollars, both in master planned communities and in very private secluded settings. New homes are primarily being built in The Meadows which is on the west side of I25 and Founders Village which is to the east of I25. Founders Village offers a variety of typographies as it lies on the climb from the city out of town toward the eastern plains, whereas The Meadows is primarily flat; lying just before the foothills of the majestic Rocky Mountains. Real estate choices in Castle Rock are not limited to single family homes. Many townhome and condominium complexes are present as well and offer very affordable living.

Residents of Castle Rock find life very appealing there. Real estate is priced a bit lower as compared to developments and towns closer to Denver, thus providing homebuyers with a somewhat better value. The trade off comes in the form of longer commute times to Denver (35-55 minutes depending on traffic and weather). Some residents view this as an acceptable trade in getting away from the hustle and bustle of an “in-town” subdivision. If you work in the Denver Technological Center (DTC), your commute time to Castle Rock is not that bad averaging approximately 15-20 minutes depending on where in Castle Rock you’re commuting from, and where in the DTC you’re commuting to. Folks working in the DTC, or anywhere south of there, find Castle Rock a very attractive option for housing.

Castle Rock offers all the amenities of any modern city. There are over 1200 acres of parks and open space to explore. The Castle Rock Recreation Center and Senior Center offer a variety of activities for all ages. There are 2 outdoor public pools and 1 indoor pool as well as numerous ball fields and a large organized sports program. Castle Rock is also home to the Douglas County Fair and Parade, The International PGA Golf Tournament, The Colorado Renaissance Festival (actually just down the road in Larkspur) and numerous other holiday celebrations. The town is also home to over 100 outlet stores, specialty boutique shops in historic downtown, and all the convenience of larger groceries and national retailers such as Target and The Home Depot. “Shop the Rock” has become a slogan and special program for the local Chamber of Commerce.
